Meet Ken Carbonetti

What brought you to FITT-RX?

Over the years I have tried a number of ways to stay/get in shape. I would join a club or small groups. It was always difficult to stick with a program due to lack of self-motivation or work schedule in the case of small groups.  Finally, after sitting around way too long, something needed to happen. Overweight and out of shape I made the plunge to FITT-RX based on the great feedback from a number of other people that attend faithfully. Great decision. The trainers and variety of the classes are fantastic. I definitely feel more fit, my clothing is no longer tight, and I generally feel good about myself.

What motivates you to workout consistently at 5:30am?

I am an early riser. Working out in the morning is a good way to get the blood pumping and be ready for the day. Nothing is better than good loud rock music and burpees. Well not so much with the burpees. Plus, my family gets a little ticked if I blast music in the morning. It’s a good fit. Not to mention, the 5:30am classes have helped me lose 16 pounds since joining FITT-RX and I plan to lose another 5-7 pounds.

You suffered back issues last year and took
some time off. What motivated you to get back into the studio?

I have always had low back issues and the last one put me on the DL for a long time. My goal was always to get back and get stronger. I had a number of family members live well into their 80s and 90s. The common thread was they kept moving.

It has been noted you attended a 5:30am class that was cancelled.
Instead of returning home, you stayed and ran sprints with a few other guys through the alley and parking garage. What inspired you to stay?

It occurred soon after I started. A couple things ran through my head. Is it like a College class? Give it 10 minutes and leave? I was all-ready up. I don’t think Egg Harbor was open yet, so breakfast was out of the question. In the end, peer pressure was the biggest factor. You don’t want to be known as the new guy that bailed on class when the trainer didn’t show up.

What are some of your favorite hobbies and interests?

I like to hop on my bike and ride the Prairie Path and other local trails. Our family shares the joys of cooking, whether grilling, baking or just trying some new recipe. Now that Steph, and I are empty nesters we want to become more frequent travelers……again.
