POSITIVE THINKING IS POWERFUL

Psychology was the class every senior in my high school looked forward to taking. Our teacher, Mr. Elgin, was fantastic, passionate about the subject, and you could truly tell he loved teaching.

He taught us all about Pavlov’s dogs, Sigmund Freud, Erikson’s stages of psychological development, and stages of grief coined by Elisabeth Kubler Ross. But the one topic that resonated with me through my time in his class was the power of positive thinking.

Positive thinking creates such a healthy approach to everything in life. To avoid getting sick, he would tell us to think ourselves well. Instead of saying, “Don’t forget…”, he’d ask us to say, “Remember to…”. All these years later, I still practice these thoughts in my day to day life.

You hear the phrase, “Life is just a bowl of cherries”. However, some of those cherries may be rotten. Toss them aside, and move on. At times though, those cherries may be too difficult to toss, and you get sucked into negativity. It happens to all of us at one time for another, but I challenge all of you to find a silver lining to something that doesn’t seem so great. I bet you can find something…health, your children, significant other, co-workers, or even the weather. Or even better, use empathy and put yourself in someone else’s shoes to understand that what you’ve been dealt really isn’t that bad.

Studies have shown the impact positive thinking has on oneself.

Here’s 10 for you:

1. Positive mind attracts positive events
