Home / Fitness / Why Strength Train?

As personal trainers and group fitness instructors, a topic that comes up more often than not is the important of strength training. Incorporating strength training into my life was the link I was missing for so many years. I’d go to the gym and run on the treadmill or workout on the elliptical machine. Heck, I might even hop on a stationary bike or the stair stepper, but I wasn’t seeing results – at all.

What was missing?

The answer: strength training

I developed a program where I needed to work my muscles 2 to 3 times per week, in addition to, my cardiovascular routine. And lo and behold, I was seeing results! Here’s what I learned about strength training through the years…

  • Helps keep the weight off for good
  • Helps protect bone health and muscle mass
  • Makes you stronger and fitter
  • Helps you develop better body mechanics
  • Plays a role in disease prevention
  • Boosts energy levels and improves your mood
  • Translates to more calories burned

This is really exciting stuff! A couple things that often come up in conversation is the fact that strength training can actually reverse osteoporosis, and secondly, I often tell people that if they are hanging out on the couch watching TV at night, they will burn more calories if they increase their muscle mass.

Don’t be afraid that you’ll “bulk up” if you’re a woman, and more importantly, if you’re interested in starting a program, let us know! We can go into more detail on getting the best results for YOU. Our goal is to empower our clients to push past their limits and succeed!

Here is an informative article that discusses the above bullet points.
